The SPANZA Executive for some time have been attempting to find ways to increase the value of SPANZA membership for our members. The Executive had thought that a “journal club” may be something that would be achievable and may come off the back of the good work undertaken within anaesthetic departments around Australasia. We had hoped to find a mechanism to enable sharing of this work. One of the key assets of SPANZA is its community and the wide breadth of experience within it and the desire to share knowledge and information.
I would like to thank Dr Catherine Olweny, from RCH Melbourne, who has offered to take on the role of coordinator of what we believe to be a worthwhile project. She and two others from Melbourne, Drs Adam Skinner and Cameron Morgan have formed the initial team. We are currently recruiting other interested SPANZA members to be involved in this endeavour to ensure sustainability.
I hope you find that this Journal Watch is useful and will direct your journal reading when there are many to choose from and we all seem to be becoming more stretched for time. Catherine and her team, are aiming to review key journals on a regular basis in an effort to capture some of the more important and hopefully influential publications.
Thank you again Catherine for helping the SPANZA Executive to realise this ambition and Happy Reading.
